March 8th is International Women’s Day – a day where the whole world celebrates women and their accomplishments. It encourages everyone to pay closer attention to gender-based discrimination and violence against women. This year the motto of the day is Each for equal. That’s right because equal rights should prevail across all genders!
BASIC FACTS: WHY IS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATED?
Everything is based on the desire for more independence and equal rights. On March 19, 1911, millions of women took to the streets internationally to fight for voting rights and better working conditions. Since then, the 8th of March was officially declared “International Women’s Day” (IWD) by the UN as part of the “International Year of Women” in 1975.
THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY IS A CALL FOR GENDER EQUALITY
While Western countries are not perfect in all aspects of gender neutrality and equal rights for men and women, many parts of the world are still significantly behind. In some places, the idea of equality between men and women is still very much in its infancy.
WE HAVE DECIDED TO SUPPORT WHERE THE NEED IS GREATEST.
In Thailand, there are still significant gaps between the sexes – this is exactly where we would like to help. We have found a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that shares our values and is strongly committed to female empowerment. #RealCommitment
The Pratthanadee Foundation gives women the chance to further their education and actively supports them so they may lead an independent and self-determined life. Even a small donation can make a huge impact.
“There is a saying in Thailand that if you help a man, you help an individual. But if you help a woman,
you help an entire family!”

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Pratthanadee is a registered charity for disadvantaged women and girls in Thailand. It is an award-winning charity with its headquarters in Bangkok and a branch in the Ubon Ratchathani province. The non-profit organisation was founded in 1999 and supports two different groups of women: Those with low levels of education, who are unemployed, in an unstable, insecure or underpaid job. While the other focuses on helping girls from poor backgrounds who are in the process of making important decisions for their future. Both groups are different, but the aim is the same: Pratthanadee wants to empower disadvantaged women and girls through the “Better Me” program.
HelloBody Cares goes further than donating money, we support the women in their education, their personal development and thus strengthen their self-esteem.
